Analysing Logo Designs

I have analysed four charity logo's similar to the charity subject i am going to have, becasue this will help me to establish what makes and effective logo.

Above is my analysis of Thames Valley, overall, i feel it is not an effective logo as it is too simple.

Above is my analysis of the 'Freal Cat project' charity, the logo is fairly effective but could still be improved by having a cute cat and less/smaller text.

Above is my analysis of the cats protection charity, the colours are effective and overall the logo is very good.

Above is my analysis of Catchat charity, the logo is effective because it shows the company name and website address and is also very simple with one colour used.

What makes a good logo?

A good logo is one that is simple to understand and clearly indentifies what a company is about. A good logo is one which looks good on anything where it is needed such as business letters, websites and business cards. In a logo, colours shouldn't be too bright as this will make the company seem childish.

According to Duncan MCAdams, to make a good logo you should consider three things:
1) A mark
2) The companies name
3) A strapline

This is beacuse all these elements work together, the Mcdonalds example is where the golden arches is the mark with Mcdoanlds written below it and the 'i'm loving it' strap line. A good logo like the Mcdonalds one is one which is easily identified, for instance if you saw a yellow 'M' then you would immediately think of the golden arches. As a general rule, there shouldn't be more than two colours in a logo.
