Evaluation

The task I was given to do was to produce a website for a charity, the charity I chose was a cat charity, i chose to do a cat charity becasue cats are an interesting topic and a well known topic for me to write about, I looked at other cat charity websites to get an idea of how to make mine work well and i analysed other logos to help me make an effective one.

For my website, I have followed all the conventions of a good website design, by using a simple colour scheme with analogue colours which are close together on the colour wheel. I have a navigation bar horizontally on the top with the name of the charity and my logo above it. My website is effective in the way that it only used up the page on the screen so the user doesn't need to scroll down, this means I dont have to follow the 'above the fold rule' becasue I can put all my information on the screen at once.

The audience for my charity website would be cat lovers and teenagers and parents because its the parents that would be more likely to buy a cat or know to find out more information on cats if their cats health is poor. To attract my audience i have used all cute pictures of cats and O have used the analogue colour scheme becasue these bring about calmness and they are not extreme for an older audience.

Because it's a website, I am going to distribute it by putting it online through search engines like 'google' and 'altavista,' as a way of making my website be shown on the first page of these search engines I could pay to have a sponsored link where i would have to pay google for each click on the sponsored link but to do it for free I will need to make it a top quality website which people will want to view and tell others about it, I will need to use keywords to stand out from other websites, the content needs to be good, the first paragraph needs to engage the reader so they are motivated to carry on viewing and navigating around it.

I have learnt many things from creating the website, the first thing I learnt was how websites follow conventions to make them more effective because the target audience are familiar with how to navigate them. but you also find that some websites break the conventions but they are still effective becasue they are more creative. I have learnt how to use Webplus 10, from using this programme I learnt how to create a navigation bar which has a 3D effect and a rollover but also fits its purpose of taking the user to diffferent pages on the website, I also learnt how to create a hyperlink that takes the user to an online web page. I also learnt the technology of photoshop elements, I learnt how to use the magic wand tool to seperate colours so you can delete the background and also how to crop pictures. I used photoshop to create my navigation bar by cutting out the buttons and saving them individually and then adding them into my created website.

if I was to re-do the product, I would try and break some of the conventions and try to be creative in the designing on my website, I would also try a triad colour scheme to make the website more exiting but not too extreme that it would put some audiences off. Overall, I feel that my website was successful because the navigation system and the colours worked well, I also feel that the cute pictures appealed to the target audience and the information is appropriate to fit my websites purpose.
