What makes a good logo?

A good logo is one that is simple to understand and clearly indentifies what a company is about. A good logo is one which looks good on anything where it is needed such as business letters, websites and business cards. In a logo, colours shouldn't be too bright as this will make the company seem childish.

According to Duncan MCAdams, to make a good logo you should consider three things:
1) A mark
2) The companies name
3) A strapline

This is beacuse all these elements work together, the Mcdonalds example is where the golden arches is the mark with Mcdoanlds written below it and the 'i'm loving it' strap line. A good logo like the Mcdonalds one is one which is easily identified, for instance if you saw a yellow 'M' then you would immediately think of the golden arches. As a general rule, there shouldn't be more than two colours in a logo.

To help with creating my charity website i have analysed four other charities alike the one i will create. I have looked at how the websites are suitable for the target audience and the positive and negative features of the websites.

Charity website for main task

The charity that i have chosen to use for my main task is the 'cats protection' charity, the charity's job is to look after unwanted cats and kittens with funding from peoples' donations. The cats protection charity was formed in 1927 and has grown in reputation and has become the Uk's leading feline welfar charity. The charity does not only help to look after unwanted cats but it also offers information on how to look after your cats and offers educational packs to two thirds of the schools in the UK.

Primary School Website finished designes

From finishing my website for the preliminary task i have realised that it is not fit for a school because of the following problems; my colour scheme of blue and white doesn't match and seems too unsuitable to and older audience, there is a lack of text on the website compared to other schools websites, especially the educational games page however the content is all suitable for the audience. On the positive side, my website seems fairly organised with pictures and text in suitable places. I also feel that the logo is basic and needs to be developed.

The pictures above are the rough drawings for my website, for my website i am going to have four pages with a video and a link to another website. I drew these designs from hand, scanned them onto the computer and used photoshop elements to edit and colour in my drawings.

Website Design

What is the purpose of my website?

The website I will be creating will be for a primary school, it's purpose is to help parents find out about events or to offer support if they have any problems and also theres an area for children to play educational games and to find out more about upcoming events.

Who will be the audience of my website?

Due to it being a primary school website the website will appeal to children by using bright colours and large font but also it will still be easy to use for parents and the parents section will contain more information than the child's section.

What does the website have to communicate?

The website can show the awards won by the school as this will impress the parents who may be looking for a future school for their child.

What will the personality of the website be?

The website will be fun and colourful so it appeals to children and the pictures will take up around half the screen.
