Final Website Print Screens
Evaluation
The task I was given to do was to produce a website for a charity, the charity I chose was a cat charity, i chose to do a cat charity becasue cats are an interesting topic and a well known topic for me to write about, I looked at other cat charity websites to get an idea of how to make mine work well and i analysed other logos to help me make an effective one.
For my website, I have followed all the conventions of a good website design, by using a simple colour scheme with analogue colours which are close together on the colour wheel. I have a navigation bar horizontally on the top with the name of the charity and my logo above it. My website is effective in the way that it only used up the page on the screen so the user doesn't need to scroll down, this means I dont have to follow the 'above the fold rule' becasue I can put all my information on the screen at once.
The audience for my charity website would be cat lovers and teenagers and parents because its the parents that would be more likely to buy a cat or know to find out more information on cats if their cats health is poor. To attract my audience i have used all cute pictures of cats and O have used the analogue colour scheme becasue these bring about calmness and they are not extreme for an older audience.
Because it's a website, I am going to distribute it by putting it online through search engines like 'google' and 'altavista,' as a way of making my website be shown on the first page of these search engines I could pay to have a sponsored link where i would have to pay google for each click on the sponsored link but to do it for free I will need to make it a top quality website which people will want to view and tell others about it, I will need to use keywords to stand out from other websites, the content needs to be good, the first paragraph needs to engage the reader so they are motivated to carry on viewing and navigating around it.
I have learnt many things from creating the website, the first thing I learnt was how websites follow conventions to make them more effective because the target audience are familiar with how to navigate them. but you also find that some websites break the conventions but they are still effective becasue they are more creative. I have learnt how to use Webplus 10, from using this programme I learnt how to create a navigation bar which has a 3D effect and a rollover but also fits its purpose of taking the user to diffferent pages on the website, I also learnt how to create a hyperlink that takes the user to an online web page. I also learnt the technology of photoshop elements, I learnt how to use the magic wand tool to seperate colours so you can delete the background and also how to crop pictures. I used photoshop to create my navigation bar by cutting out the buttons and saving them individually and then adding them into my created website.
if I was to re-do the product, I would try and break some of the conventions and try to be creative in the designing on my website, I would also try a triad colour scheme to make the website more exiting but not too extreme that it would put some audiences off. Overall, I feel that my website was successful because the navigation system and the colours worked well, I also feel that the cute pictures appealed to the target audience and the information is appropriate to fit my websites purpose.

Colour Theory
Before I create my website, I need to consider the colour scheme, colour is very importnat in web design because having too brighter or having to many colours can put the user off as too many colours makes the website seem busy and makes it harder for the user to find inoformation, a page with fewer colours is a safer option but it can make the website seem boring. There are three main categories to put different colours in:
The first category is the primary colour, this is the main colour to be used on the website, the second is the secondary colour, this is like a back-up to the primary colour. We then have the highlight colour, this is used to point out parts of the page that should stand out, it is usually a contrasting to the primary or secondary colours.
To have an effective colour scheme I need to consider how the colours work together, the wheel below shows the main colours.
There are two main themes for effective colours, the first one is the analogue colour scheme, this is where you use colours that are alike and close on the colour wheel, these colours are effective becasue they are not extreme and merge together well, analogue colurs are shown below.
Another colour scheme is the complementary colours, these are colours which compltely contrast like black and white, this colour scheme would be used for a more energetic website, the complimentary colour scheme is shown below.
triad colours are like complementary colours but they involve having three colours that contrast like pink, blue and yellow, this is effective for an extreme website. The wheel is shown below:
For my charity website I will use analogue colours, because i want my website to be calm and simple for the user, i am also aiming my website at teenagers and parents so the analogue colours are a nice balance between the two age groups.

Analysing Logo Designs
I have analysed four charity logo's similar to the charity subject i am going to have, becasue this will help me to establish what makes and effective logo.

Above is my analysis of the cats protection charity, the colours are effective and overall the logo is very good.

Above is my analysis of Thames Valley, overall, i feel it is not an effective logo as it is too simple.
Above is my analysis of the 'Freal Cat project' charity, the logo is fairly effective but could still be improved by having a cute cat and less/smaller text.

What makes a good logo?
A good logo is one that is simple to understand and clearly indentifies what a company is about. A good logo is one which looks good on anything where it is needed such as business letters, websites and business cards. In a logo, colours shouldn't be too bright as this will make the company seem childish.
According to Duncan MCAdams, to make a good logo you should consider three things:
1) A mark
2) The companies name
3) A strapline
This is beacuse all these elements work together, the Mcdonalds example is where the golden arches is the mark with Mcdoanlds written below it and the 'i'm loving it' strap line. A good logo like the Mcdonalds one is one which is easily identified, for instance if you saw a yellow 'M' then you would immediately think of the golden arches. As a general rule, there shouldn't be more than two colours in a logo.

To help with creating my charity website i have analysed four other charities alike the one i will create. I have looked at how the websites are suitable for the target audience and the positive and negative features of the websites.
